Do you remember those choose your own adventure books from the '80s? this trail is like one of those. there's lots of crossroads where you have to make a decision, because the trail isn't marked. I was trying to hike alongside the parkway to Haw Creek valley overlook. seems like it should have been pretty easy, right? But before I knew it I was spit out onto a residential road (independence boulevard) with nowhere to go but back where I came from. I'm sure it's a great trail if you know where to turn, I'll come back and give it another try and choose a different adventure.

Plenty of parking. If you are hiking the section of the MST toward Haw Creek overlook don't expect a sweeping view of anything until you get to the overlook. You can see Haw Creek and Pisagh in the very far distance. Hard packed trail makes for an easy hike. Some elevation. Watch measured total of 3500 ft overall but all trails doesn't get close. There is a detour on the trail but still keeps you along the parkway. If you are looking for silence on your hike you won't find it here, yiu do have traffic noise from the parkway. Tons of wildflowers in the spring.

Mtn. to Sea Trail-Craven Gap to Haw Creek Valley-(Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville, N.C. ) 4.62 Miles, 581 ft. elevation gain, 1 hr. 52 minutes. Well, this was a first...having to cut the hike a little short due to a bear being on the trail. Overall a nice little hike but as stated above, we didn't get to the end for the view. But found out after leaving and driving back down, the view is right on the parkway across from a pullover at the lookout view. So only use if you want to get some cardio and miles in. Otherwise the view can be seen on the road.

Really nice moderate hike. The trails are well maintained and parking is easy. No view points with beautiful vistas but still a great hike. There and back is about 4 miles. So roughly 1.5-2 hours of hiking. Park on the dirt road or along the grass off of Town Mountain Rd. before you get to the Blue Ridge Pkwy.

Great trail that’s well maintained. Small parking area, muddy spots, ladders, and rock scramble included. Runs parallel to the blue ridge parkway. Lots of ferns, fungi, and pretty views of the mountains. Not a lot of people on the trail. Not strenuous at all.

Well-marked trail that is great for a moderate intensity 3.5 mile out-and-back hike (if you walk to the road on back). Plenty of shade and wildlife!

Craven Gap trails are a part of the larger system of trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can approach them from the Parkway itself, Town Mountain Rd from downtown Asheville, or from Webb Cove Rd which splits from Beaverdam Rd in North Asheville. Webb Cove is a gravel road, but a couple spots offer seriously Wow views. The trail heading north from the parking area is not very strenuous for at least a mile. I can't say beyond that. We saw a couple black bears chilling up the hill. They were still there on the way back through. Numerous people noticed them. Many more didn't even realize they were there. It's like that if you don't stop and gawk and shout. We really liked this section of trail. Highly recommend for a quick hike or longer!
